At GenLayer Labs, I led the development of GenLayer Studio, an open-source platform enabling developers to experiment with the GenLayer protocol and prototype decentralized applications.
Goal-oriented software engineer with experience in Backend Development, AI, Blockchain, Communication Protocols, Embedded Systems, Sensors, Computer Vision and Data. I am efficient, independent and a quick learner. Specialized in turning complex technical ideas into reliable, user-facing products.
I'm a versatile software engineer and builder with a strong foundation in electrical engineering and computer science. My career has taken me across multiple domains and industries, applying a methodical, efficient approach to ship reliable, high-impact solutions. My international experience includes working in Belgium, Portugal and remotely for global teams.
I'm driven by roles where I can tackle complex problems, build systems end-to-end and continuously grow as an engineer. I do my best work when I'm in the zone, learning new technologies and pushing beyond my comfort zone. I'm particularly interested in international and distributed environments, having worked in Belgium, Portugal and remotely with global teams.
Over the seven years of my career, I've taken on mentorship and ownership responsibilities where they created the most value. At ams OSRAM, I mentored a junior engineer in her first role, helping her build confidence navigating both hardware and software work as well as the electronics lab environment. I also supported field application engineers and sales teams by sharing technology, product and industry knowledge. At GenLayer Labs, I mentored a junior Python developer through code reviews, pair programming and collaborative problem-solving. Across teams, I bring clarity, technical expertise and a collaborative mindset.

This project makes my work publicly visible and demonstrates how I structure, document and maintain production-quality code. It shows my approach to developer experience and long-term maintainability in open-source environments.
Note: This was a deliberate learning exercise to understand Django's architecture and conventions, not a commercial application.
I built this project independently to learn the Django web framework from scratch. The goal was to understand Django by building a full end-to-end application without prior Django experience, no LLM-assisted coding, no templates and no shortcuts.
Independent developer and architect for the entire project, responsible for all aspects from data modeling to deployment.
Demonstrates ability to learn a new backend framework independently and pragmatic decision-making under platform constraints. This project demonstrates learning velocity and engineering discipline, not framework loyalty.
Worked as a professional embedded software engineer on a safety-critical system for the aviation industry. The system involved communication protocols implemented and verified on FPGA hardware for CMC Electronics.
Embedded software engineer responsible for verification and testing of safety-critical FPGA systems.
Contributed to achieving quality certification for safety-critical aviation systems. Improved confidence in protocol correctness and system safety while reducing risk during integration phases. Demonstrated ability to work in regulated, safety-critical environments with strong discipline around quality, verification and documentation.
Worked as a senior solutions engineer on unreleased CMOS image sensor technology for a global semiconductor company, bridging R&D and customer-facing teams.
Senior solutions engineer responsible for developing evaluation systems and supporting global customers.
Increased customer adoption and satisfaction by creating practical and flexible evaluation tools. Contributed customer feedback directly into product roadmaps, influencing future sensor development. Recognized with seniority after two years due to impact and responsibility. Demonstrated end-to-end system thinking and strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
As part of a research master thesis at Imec, a leading semiconductor research center, I investigated machine learning approaches for hand gesture recognition on mmWave radar data, targeting resource-constrained IoT devices where inference speed, model size and power consumption are critical. Research question: Can alternative machine learning models achieve competitive accuracy with significantly lower computational and energy costs?
Independent researcher responsible for the entire research project, from problem definition to implementation and evaluation.
Demonstrated that Gaussian Process models could achieve competitive performance with significantly fewer parameters than traditional approaches. Identified critical trade-offs between model expressiveness and computational efficiency. Showed the viability of non-deep-learning approaches for specific embedded ML use cases, providing insights relevant to energy-efficient edge AI systems. Demonstrated ability to work independently on open-ended technical problems and systems-level thinking.
Head of Developer Experience
Cristiam managed Kristof directly
Kristof is very analytical and focused Software Engineer. He has a big talent for understanding and implementing the most complex processes taking into consideration performance and reliability. He is very friendly and easy to work with. He cares about the projects he works on and he always aim for top quality.
Senior Python Developer
Miguel worked with Kristof on the same team
Kristof is an exceptional developer with a strong ability to solve complex problems and communicate clearly across the team. Working together on the Dev Tools team at GenLayer, I was impressed by his focus on code quality, thoughtful design, and adherence to best practices in software development.
He played a key role in the development of GenLayer Studio, a core component of the GenLayer ecosystem, where his contributions greatly improved the product's structure and usability. Kristof combines technical excellence with a collaborative spirit, making him a reliable and inspiring teammate to work with.
Lead Engineer
Ana worked with Kristof on the same team
I had the pleasure of working directly with Kristof at Critical Software. Kristof is a dedicated and highly proactive professional, always bringing energy and commitment to everything he does. His preferred areas of expertise are embedded systems and machine learning, but he is remarkably adaptable and can contribute effectively to any team or project.
